Overview of the Program 

The Active Youth Program is a nine-month project, implemented by IYAP and funded by the US Embassy in Sri Lanka for undergraduates and graduates that includes a twelve-session program delivered online, four forums for sharing experiences related to the implementation of democracy and governance, a research methodology workshop, the publication of research articles in a research publication, and online space where participants can create blogs.

Active Youth Program (AYP) is designed to ensure that young women and men are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively participate in, and contribute to, the consolidation and strengthening of democracy.

WHAT IS THE STRATEGIC COURSE ON DEMOCRACY, GOVERNANCE AND PARTICIPATION ABOUT?

The “Active Youth for Democratic Vision” is geared towards providing awareness, education, training, practical knowledge and participatory activities, so that you will receive knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject area, and see attitudes and behaviour transformed. You will be equipped to know and practise democracy and its inherent aspects and responsibilities in society, to value diversity and inclusion,and to play an active part in democratic life. This in turn ensures an advancement and protection of democracy, transparency, accountability at all levels of society.

Delivered by the International Youth Alliance for Peace in partnership with strategic partners, both individual and organisational, this 12-week strategic course explores the theories that influence representative democracy and the challenges in Sri Lanka and societies around the world.

By learning about new aspects of participation and democratization of government, you will be able to acquire an awareness of how and when to use different approaches that will allow you to better lead initiatives and voice positions, for a strengthening of democracy and further democratization of society.

You are required to attend and actively participate in all sessions throughout the specified period. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded with an official certificate and a transcript. If selected, your research paper will be included in the research publication that is being launched in February 2023.

AYP consists of four modules that are delivered in a series of training sessions for 12 weeks. Each module is broken down into substantive sections and includes a student-led Forum.

How to apply

Eligibility Criteria

  • Between the ages of 21 to 45
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate Student in a state or private university
  • Availability for engaging in the project for 06 months
  • Interested in the areas of democracy and its core principles
